By Harold Bayley

In the next section we present our perspective on the contribution of qualitative research to practice as background for readers who are practitioners. CONTRIBUTION OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH TO PRACTICE The transfer of knowledge from research programs to clinical practice has received increasing emphasis in recent years. To achieve the best possible care for their clients, nurses and other health care professionals seek operating principles based on sound research to guide their practice. Two trends support the transfer of knowledge from research to practice: an accumulating body of findings from research programs that address questions of concern to practitioners, and increased emphasis on practice standards that promote evidence-based care.
